California Target Birds Services

In most cases, I work with your vehicle or rental vehicle, and prefer to do most the driving. My vehicle is available for an additional $55/day. After contact, we can make the decision for which vehicle that you would like to use for the birding trip. Please note that the are some locations where a high-clearance vehicle is needed, and most rental car companies discourage driving on dirt roads.

If you have a large group, we can help arrange an appropriate rental vehicle. CALIFORNIA TARGET BIRDS is flexible for special arrangements (e.g. airport and motel pickups and dropoffs). Prices may vary due to the cost of gas and time of day.

RESERVATIONS: I require a deposit of $50 per day, or 20% of the expected minimum charges, whichever is greater. In order for me to hold dates, deposits must be received within 7 days after making a reservation . I do not accept credit cards. A personal check is the preferred form of payment for both deposit and balance. Alternatively, payment can be made by travelers check or money order (U.S. funds only — no foreign currency). If all else fails, cash works. Remember, to avoid any inconvenience, please get your check in the mail soon after making a reservation. This ensures that if you change your mind, another guest will have the opportunity for that time slot.

CANCELLATIONS: If you cancel for any reason, the deposit is forfeited unless I am able to completely fill your canceled dates with other clients, in which case I will refund your deposit less $20. Alternatively, you can request that the deposit be applied to a future trip. If you reschedule my services within one year of the original date (for the same number of days or a longer period), the full amount of your deposit will be credited, otherwise the entire deposit is forfeited.

PLANNING YOUR TRIPS: California Target Birds wants to provide our clients with the maximum birding experience. Our goal is to find and show you your target birds with a minimum of effort. For the best results, it is important to keep timing in mind when considering a trip to see particular birds. For example:

• Time of Day: Proper conditions of daylight, tides or weather must often be met.

• Time of Year:
Certain species can be year-round residents, but many species are either winter or summer visitors. Some make short distance movements seasonally and can be encountered more easily during certain times of the year.

BIRDING ETHICS: I am in the business of taking clients to various locations to find birds. We follow the ABA Code of Ethics as we visit many areas—parks, private ranches, and a variety of habitats. Ethical birding and good behavior make for a good trip.

ADMISSION FEES (National Parks, State Parks, County Parks, etc): Clients are responsible for all admission fees

LODGING: CALIFORNIA TARGET BIRDS can provide a list of accommodations, if needed, in the locations that we will be birding.

MEALS: At your request, I would by happy to incorporate a sit-down restaurant meal into the route. In many cases, however, the best option may be to pack a lunch beforehand to eat in the field. Please contact me for special requests.
